Circular Knitting Machine Gauges
Circular knitting machines are generally gauged on the English System(E) of needles per inch(npi).
Normally gauges range from E7 to E42, which means 7 or 42 needles per inch respectively. E7 is termed “coarse gauge” and “E42” was called “Fine gauge”.
While Metric system, which is based on the distance in tenths of a millimeter from the centre of one needle to the next, is rarely used for its complicacy. It’s a direct evaluation, with a higher gauge number means a coarser gauge, quite opposite to English system.
